More than 70 local employers met with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department and the Veterans Enterprise Training and Services Group, a non-profit organization that supports military veterans, to host the Leave No Veteran Behind Employment Fair and Expo at Miami International (MIA) this week.
Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio Gonzalez and County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, who also serves as military liaison, joined VETS Group President Joe Wynn, VET-Force Chairman Rick Weidman and representatives from event sponsors to kick off the job fair.
“MIA is honored to give back to the many veterans who have sacrificed so much to help protect the freedoms we all enjoy,” Gonzalez says. “Many of our veterans face difficulties in obtaining employment and this job fair goes a long way toward helping these brave men and women obtain gainful employment, whether at the airport or elsewhere.”
The daylong event offered job and business opportunities by private companies, colleges and government agencies to more than 200 veterans, active duty military, their family members and veteran-owned businesses. MIA is the first of 30 U.S. airports scheduled to host the fair and expo in 2015.
The event was sponsored by Paradies and Avis Budget Group, with support from the American Association of Airport Executives, the Airport Minority Advisory Council and the Veterans Entrepreneurship Task Force.
