Montreal Reveals Expansions, Improvements

Aeroports de Montreal on Wednesday debuted $350 million worth of improvements and expansions at Montreal Pierre-Elliot Trudeau International (YUL).

The redevelopment includes an extension of the international wing, the addition of six boarding gates and a new commercial area between Gates 52 and 53. Expansions were also made in the domestic sector near Gate 1.

“The project is part of a master plan to create a facility that is both functional and vibrant, as well as emblematic of Montreal,” says James Cherry, president and CEO of ADM. “It has been completed showing imagination and taking into account our limited financial resources.”

The interior open-plan area of the wing includes a lighted ceiling installation titled “Nuée de Verre” or “Veil of Glass.” Made of different colored glass triangles, it is illuminated by spotlights. Large murals by local artists are also present.

“Although representing a small percentage of the budget, it is these little extras, in conjunction with the open-plan, transparent architectural design, that make all the difference,” says Cherry.

The airport took the same approach with concession enhancements, highlighting local flavors. New restaurants include Auberge St.-Gabriel, Burger Queue de Cheval, Le Grand Comptoir Wine Bar, the Avenue des Canadiens resto-bar and Montreal Bagel & Deli. Plus, the Montreal Cuisine de Rue food truck is also present.
