MSP Adds Automated Passport Control Services

U.S. and Canadian travelers entering the United States through Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) can enjoy a more flier-friendly experience going through Customs.

The airport has added 10 automated passport control kiosks at its Terminal 1.

The kiosks enable travelers to scan their passports and complete declaration forms electronically. Travelers follow on-screen instructions to obtain a receipt confirming their identity and flight information. They bring the receipt to a Customs and Border Protection officer for processing.

“After a long international flight, the last thing travelers want is to face long lines in Customs,” says Jeff Hamiel, executive director and CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which operates MSP. “This technology, coupled with other recent improvements to our Terminal 1 International Arrivals facility make for shorter wait times, less congestion and faster flight connections.”

The service is free and does not require pre-registration. MSP is considering an additional 14 kiosks for installation early next year.
