Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) has become the latest airport to implement the Mobile Passport Control app.
The app helps expedite passengers’ arrivals into the U.S. Eligible travelers submit their passport information and customs declaration to U.S. Customs and Border Protection through their smartphone or tablet before arriving.
“The goal is to use technology to make the process of entering the country through MSP International Airport as simple and efficient as possible,” says Brian Ryks, executive director and CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission. “For travelers without mobile devices, we have also installed 34 Automated Passport Control kiosks in our International Arrivals areas. They work much the same way as Mobile Passport Control but provide a printed rather than electronic receipt to expedite the entry process.”
Travelers create their profiles in the app, including their name, gender, birthday, country of citizenship, passport information and a photo. Once they complete a series of customs declaration questions, they hit “submit.” An electronic receipt with an encrypted QR code is sent to them, and they bring it will them to a CBP officer for a final inspection.
