This month Minneapolis-St.Paul International celebrates the 50th anniversary of Terminal 1-Lindbergh.
Opened in 1962, the terminal was originally 600,000 sq. ft. and featured 24 gates on two concourses to accommodate 14,000 travelers per day. Presently, the terminal is 2.8 million sq. ft. with 117 gates over seven concourses, to accommodate an average of 80,000 travelers. The terminal was not officially named until 1985, dedicated to Minnesota aviator Charles Lindbergh.
“Expansion of Terminal 1-Lindbergh over the years has largely mirrored the growth of the Twin Cities hub operation,” says Jeffrey Hamiel, executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission.
