New Concessions Heading To SAN

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Board has approved 10 new food and retail concessions packages, and will consider an additional six at its next public meeting Sept. 1, for San Diego International (SAN).

The packages are a change from the airport’s longtime master concessionaire model to a multiple primes model. Under the new model, new and existing concessionaires will have more opportunities, with the goal of offering options for local, regional, national and international concepts.

“The packages approved today are a big win for the traveling public and for San Diego,” says Robert H. Gleason, chairman of the airport authority board. “More locations, more variety and more local flavor will bring an exciting new concession environment to the airport. We are pleased to have achieved this milestone while upholding the board’s commitment to worker retention and opportunities for local, small and disadvantaged businesses.”

“We want airport visitors to get a distinct sense of place when they visit our airport,” says Nyle Marmion, manager of concession development for the airport authority. “These new shopping and dining options – of which many are local – will make a powerful statement that you are in San Diego when you land at SDIA.”
