The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has adopted new regulations on the use of limousines and companies such as Uber and Lyft at Washington Dulles International (IAD) and Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA).
Under the new regulations, transportation network companies will be able to operate at both airports as long as they are authorized to operate by a state or local government in the Washington area, get a permit from the airports authority and pay an access fee. There also will be a new designated waiting area for the TNCs. Right now, TNCs can only come to the airport if they have a pre-arranged trip or need to drop off a passenger.
“For passengers at Reagan National and Dulles International, this change means they will see a broader variety of ground-transportation options quickly and readily available,” says Margaret McKeough, airports authority executive vice president and COO. “The new regulations are the result of months of study, public input and review in order to determine how best to provide our passengers with access to these new ground transportation options they desire, while ensuring the airport operates effectively and equitably for everyone.”
The new regulations will go into effect Nov. 1.
