New Plans for International Terminal at IAH

Two terminals at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) will be combined by 2024 and will include two concourses devoted to international travel, IAH director Mario Diaz told the Houston City Council Economic Development Committee in a meeting Thursday.

The new terminal will be located in the footprint of current Terminals D and E. It will have two concourses and a new facility will house the ticketing, security and baggage areas for both. An adjacent parking garage will be demolished to allow for the inclusion of the new building.

The loss of the parking garage will be offset by the addition of two more levels to the Terminal C garage. HOU also plans to demolish the airport’s old Terminal C North. A new Terminal C North has already been built. The demolition of the old facility will make room for six new gates to accommodate wide-body aircraft.

Diaz said plans call for demolition related to the new terminal to begin next year, with a target completion date of 2024.
