OAK Appoints Simon As Interim Director

SimonThe Oakland Board of Port Commissioners has confirmed the appointment of Craig Simon as its interim director of aviation overseeing Oakland International Airport (OAK). Simon took over the OAK reins from Bryant Francis, who served in the position for seven years, and has been acting as director since early May. The resolution formalizes Simon’s appointment to the position.

Simon joined OAK in 2012 as an airside operations superintendent and was named assistant director of aviation in 2020. He began his career in aviation at San Jose International Airport (SJC) in 2001 as a senior airport operations specialist.

“I am honored to serve in this aviation role at the Port of Oakland at such a pivotal time,” said Simon. “We are proposing to modernize Oakland International Airport to better serve the traveling public as well as our airline tenants. I look forward to contributing to this planning process and running the airport efficiently to meet the needs of our traveling public.”
