OIAA Names New COO And CDO

In preparation for assuming ownership and control of Ontario International (ONT) the Ontario International Airport Authority has hired Bruce Atlas as its chief operating officer and Mark Thorpe as its chief development officer.

Atlas most recently served as Southwest Airlines’ station manager at ONT, where he had worked since 1998 in various positions. As station manager, he oversaw all of the carrier’s activities at the airport, including finance, budget, administration, commercial and employee development, operations and maintenance, and environmental responsibilities.

“Bruce Atlas is dedicated, dependable and has a proven track record of leadership with hands-on experience,” said OIAA President and Ontario City Councilman Alan Wapner. “His exceptionally diverse experience in all areas of aviation management and his unrelenting passion for customer service position him for tremendous success in his critical role with OIAA.”

Thorpe was also announced as a new hire by OIAA. He was most recently in air service development at Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) and at Los Angeles Word Airports.

“I am very pleased to have Mark joining us as our first chief development officer, overseeing all commercial business, passenger, cargo and property development at ONT,” says OIAA CEO Kelly Fredericks. “Mark’s intimate understanding of the Southern California market, combined with his exposure to airport best practices and key industry contacts domestically and internationally, will bring tremendous value to OIAA as we expand all facets of our ONT airport business model.”
