Paul Brown, longtime industry consultant and former director of concessions at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL), has joined the Transportation Consortium of New York.
As senior vice president of airport operators, Brown will be responsible for planning, sourcing and executing the development of commercial goods at TCNY-A projects. In an interview with ARN, he indicated that in the short term he is helping the organization with some business planning, including preparing a business plan, certifying minority- and women-owned businesses, and ensuring that the company has filed the paperwork necessary to do business in New York.
If the firm ultimately wins the right to do business at LaGuardia (LGA), it will turn into a longer-term job. Capital improvements at LGA have been under discussion for several years. New Jersey’s Star-Ledger reported late last week that a contract to replace the half-century-old main terminal there is on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Board of Commissioners and could be awarded then.
“Paul brings to the team the experience of operations of a global facility,” says Phillip Collier, CEO of TCNY-A, in a statement. “His track record of managing non-aeronautical assets, particularly airport concessions, positions TCNY-A to be on the leading edge in the emerging trend of private management of airport facilities in the U.S.”
At ATL, Brown had been hired specifically to lead the design, evaluation and selection process for a massive concession overhaul at the nation’s busiest airport, which included existing and newly created space for retail, food and business travel services in the airport’s existing terminals and in the new Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal.
