PDX Installs DC Fast-Charging EV System

Portland International Airport (PDX) has installed a new electric vehicle charging system for its rental car partners. Located in PDX’s Quick Turnaround (QTA) rental car facility, the new DC charging system features 10 200kW dual dispensers that allow for 10 vehicles to be charged at the same time at a speed approximately eight times faster than standard chargers. In addition to its rental car charging initiative, PDX offers EV chargers for passengers in its parking garages and is in the process of transitioning its gasoline- and diesel-powered ground service equipment to electric vehicles by February 2026 through funding provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.

“Many of our rental car partners are transitioning more of their fleet to electric vehicles over the next decade, so we’re investing in infrastructure to help them meet those goals,” said Chris Czarnecki, director of PDX business and properties for  Port of Portland. “We designed the system to be forward-thinking and scalable. It’s part of a broader electrification effort across our business to reduce vehicle emissions.”

“PDX has taken a major step towards a sustainable future with an ambitious project to electrify its rental car fleet,” said Courtney Jenkins, president of project contractor ENGIE Services U.S. Inc. “By addressing stakeholders including rental car companies, drivers, and facility operators, PDX has created a collaborative solution and is moving forward with a groundbreaking electrification strategy.”
