Like many of its counterparts, Portland International Airport (PDX) has taken steps to alleviate the financial strain on concessions businesses.
The airport has eliminated minimum annual guarantees for food and beverage, retail and terminal services, switching to a percentage of sales rent only “for the time being,” airport spokesperson Kama Simonds says. PDX is also allowing adjusted hours at the operators’ discretion, and Simonds said operators are working to keep services available for travelers around changing flight schedules.
Several businesses operating at PDX have followed the lead of their city-store counterparts and are temporarily closing their airport stores. These include Nike, Columbia Sportswear, Powell’s Books and Dragontree Spa.
On March 16, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown ordered restrictions on bars, restaurants, wineries, pubs, breweries and tasting rooms. This impacts the sit-down restaurants at PDX. Airport counter-service restaurants, grab-and-go services and coffee stands are considered takeout.
