The Port of Portland, operator of Portland International Airport (PDX) opened a new consolidated rental car facility at the airport that features an open and spacious layout, warm wood panels, natural lighting and several new art installations celebrating the region’s diversity.
The new rental car center, part of the airport’s PDXNext $2 billion overhaul, includes new technology called CarbonCure that reduces carbon emissions by permanently trapping more carbon dioxide in concrete. PDX is the first in the region to utilize this low-carbon concrete and, by bringing this technology to Portland, it’s now available to other projects in the area.
PDX currently serves 11 rental car partners – now all within walking distance onsite: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Thrifty, along with new additions Sixt and Zipcar.
“Traveling from PDX to our region just got even easier and more convenient with all of our rental car partners onsite and an easier route through the building,” said Dan Pippenger, chief operating officer at the Port of Portland. “The new rental car center also gets us one step closer to reducing congestion on our roadways by eliminating rental car shuttles and moving our shared rides to a new location in Summer 2022.”
The port added that women and minority owned businesses as well as veteran owned businesses provided more than $30 million in design and construction services as part of the new rental car center at PDX.
