PHL Celebrates Anniversary With Special Exhibit

It’s been 75 years since Philadelphia International (PHL) began its commercial air service, and the airport is commemorating the occasion with a special exhibit.

The exhibit, “75 Years of Commercial Air Services,” follows PHL evolution into a major hub. It is in the Terminal C-D link and is accessible to ticketed passengers through December.

“This exhibit illustrates how the airport has changed over the years,” says Leah Douglas chief curator for PHL. “Some passengers from the area will likely remember the old days and appreciate how much has been achieved.”

The photographic chronology follows PHL from 1940, when the airport only had four carriers and 40,000 annual passengers, to its current position.

“This exhibit offers a nostalgic perspective of our airport while showcasing PHL’s many historic milestones,” says Mark Gale, airport CEO. “The airport has improved its services through the years and will continue to respond to advances in aviation today and tomorrow.”
