Philadelphia International (PHL) has unveiled an exhibit called “Faces of Freedom: The Constitution at 225” to mark the 225th signing of the United States Constitution.
The exhibit, based on “The American National Tree,” a permanent display at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pa., includes 46 of the 100 portraits on view at the center. Those shown lived during various eras in the country’s history.
The airport teamed with the center to present the exhibit, which can be found in Terminal A-East near Gate A-1.
“The United States Constitution espouses the ideals that are precious to everyone who values freedom and dignity,” says Mayor Michael A. Nutter. “The individuals celebrated here are champions in the constant struggle to ensure that rights and freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution are respected and never compromised. I want to thank the airport and the National Constitution Center for collaborating on this wonderful exhibit that shares our inspiring heritage with a world audience.”
Some of the people shown in “Faces of Freedom” include W.E.B. Du Bois, Louis Brandeis, Cesar Estrada Chavez, Katharine Graham, Charlton Heston, Harvey Milk, Ralph Nader, Paul Robeson, Jackie Robinson, John D. Rockefeller, Booker T. Washington and Ryan White. There are also three frames that invite visitors to “Share a Story of Freedom” by nominating an American who has influenced our constitutional history for consideration in “The American National Tree” exhibit.
“It is a privilege to work with the National Constitution Center, a national historical treasure, to present an inspiring exhibit that shares our country’s amazing heritage and cherished ideals with travelers from all over the world,” says Mark Gale, CEO of the airport. “I am pleased that our forum at the airport gives us this unique opportunity.”
