PHL Serving Up Lemonade In Security Lines For Summer Refreshment Program

Officials at Philadelphia International (PHL) think lemonade is a natural fit for a hot summer day, so travelers waiting in security lines at the airport are being given a cup of the sweet treat as part of the airport’s new Summer Refreshment Program.

The program is coordinated by the airport’s Information Services staff, which goes through the terminal areas before the security check points with five rolling carts.

“The Summer Refreshment Program is another way to make travel through the airport a bit more pleasant,” says Airport CEO Mark Gale. “During the busy summer travel season, lines can sometimes increase in length. Hopefully, a nice cup of lemonade will make the brief wait a little easier.”

When temperatures cool, the program will morph into the Winter Refreshment Program, this time featuring hot chocolate.

The program is the latest part of the airport’s Hospitality Program, which offers passengers pillows, blankets, sleeping mats and vanity kits when they need to spend the night at the airport because of flight disruptions. Special Snooze Zones can be activated when large numbers of passengers are in the terminals overnight.
