PHX Announces Retail Contract Winners For Terminal 4

The Phoenix City Council has approved the first phase of new retail contracts for Terminal 4 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX). The retail contracts include two spa locations, several tech stores and an assortment of local, regional and national branded stores.

Contracts were awarded to Lagardère TR and Partners LLC; Avila Retail Development and Management LLC; HG Phoenix Retailers JV; Paradies PHX LLC; and XpresSpa Phoenix Airport LLC.

“Following our award-winning and successful food and beverage upgrade in Terminal 4 which achieved international acclaim, we will now offer a mix of diverse products and services to delight our customers,” said Jim Bennett, director of aviation services at PHX.

PHX said successful proposers were chosen based upon criteria including proposed concept(s), qualifications and experience, proposed business plan, design and quality of improvements, management team, operations and marketing plans, and employee incentives. The airport said the new concepts were based on customer feedback and will open in phases through the end of 2016.

In all, there were eight different packages in the phase one retail plans. Seven package contracts were awarded. PHX said it received no responses for an RFP for a single open-concept location.

Lagardère TR and Partners LLC will operate 12 News, a news/gift store, and Arizona Highways, the official store affiliated with the Arizona Highways magazine. It will offer state-themed gifts and souvenirs, publications, periodicals and distinctive Arizona books. Lagardère TR and Partners also won a specialty retail package to operate an iStore and two Techlab locations.

Avila Retail Development and Management LLC also won two packages, one news and gift and one specialty retail. Within the news and gift package, Avila will open Sunglass Hut, Johnston & Murphy and Uno de 50, which will feature handcrafted jewelry. Avila’s specialty retail package includes Mosaic, selling jewelry, paintings, limited-edition prints, creative ceramics and more; and Earth Spirit, an arts-centric gift store.

HG Phoenix Retailers JV won a single news and gift package that includes three stores: Hudson news/gift store; Bunky Boutique, offering clothing, accessories and home goods; and Fire CZ, a jewelry store.

Paradies PHX LLC, which bid separately from Lagardère, won a single news and gift package comprised of five stores. Paradise will open a TODAY news/gift store; Roosevelt Row, featuring local Phoenix artists; Brooks Brothers clothing store; and two Cactus Candy locations selling Arizona candies.

Finally, two spa locations in a single package will be operated by XpresSpa.

The winning bids represent the first of a two-phase retail renovation at PHX. Proposals for the second set of Terminal 4 retail contracts are due August 23.

Chris Madsen, deputy aviation director for business and properties at PHX, said the new retail will “enhance customer service for thousands of travelers every day.” She added: “Passengers will have their choice of nationally recognized brands and one-of-a-kind local merchandise only found in Arizona.”
