PHX Terminal 3 To Be Renamed After Senator John McCain

Phoenix City Council voted unanimously to rename Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Terminal 3 the John S. McCain III Terminal. McCain, who has represented Arizona in the US Senate since 1987, is one of Arizona’s most well-known public figures. In addition to his tenure in the Senate, McCain served as a pilot in the US Navy.

“Tens of millions of visitors and residents will see Senator McCain’s name and be reminded of his long service and personal sacrifice on behalf of Arizona and our country,” said Councilman Jim Waring. This is a fitting tribute to a man who personifies courage and perseverance.”

Naming Terminal 3 after Senator McCain continues PHX’s tradition of dedicating terminals to Arizona senators. “It’s perfectly fitting that our busiest terminals at Sky Harbor would be named for two of Arizona’s best-known aviators and most impactful public servants – Senator Barry Goldwater and Senator John McCain,” said Mayor Greg Stanton.

Terminal 3 is in the midst of a $590 million renovation that will modernize the terminal by 2020. Additions include a new South Concourse with 15 new gates and new shops and restaurants in the remodeled North Concourse.
