The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority (RDAA) has started implementing its first Sustainability Management Plan (SMP) as Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).
The SMP was developed with input from the public and business community some of its guidelines are already in place, including operating four electric shuttle buses with four more coming soon; earning LEED certification for Terminal 1, using building management systems for HVAC, lighting and temperature controls; using daylight and occupancy sensors in the terminals, using ecofriendly cleaning products in airport buildings; installing rain sensors on irrigation systems; and putting recycling programs in place in the terminals.
“RDU is committed to building on its record of incorporating sustainability into its operations as the airport continues to grow to meet the increasing demand for air travel,” said Michael Landguth, RDAA president and CEO. “We appreciate the participation we received from the community in helping us develop the framework for a more sustainable future at RDU.”
