Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) has launched the ParkRDU Preservation Project for the 11,000-space garage between the airport’s terminals.
The project will focus on infrastructure improvements, such as steel and concrete repair, expansion joint replacement, pipe replacement, cleaning and painting.
The work is preventative, but it will require the airport to close up to 1,500 spaces at any given time. The first parking section will close Monday, April 24. It will take two weeks once a section closes for cars to clear, allowing work to begin.
“Our customers love parking close to the terminal, and we want them to be able to do so for many years to come,” says Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport. “That’s why we’re undertaking this critical preservation work.”
Leading up to the start of the project, the airport authority invested around half a million dollars on measures to ease the impact on passengers. These measures include website updates, additional staff, electric vehicles and more shuttles.
