Redesigned Security Checkpoint Opens At TUS

A redesigned security checkpoint is the first project completed of the Tucson International’s (TUS) Terminal Optimization Program. The Terminal Optimization program is one of several construction projects within the airport’s “A Brighter TUS” improvements.

The checkpoint is located in the B Concourse, which serves Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. The checkpoint has been relocated to the far west end of the terminal and has an expanded configuration for the Transportation Security Administration’s equipment. The more efficient design allows the checkpoint to expand to four lanes and provides infrastructure to expand to 10 lanes in the future.

Other improvements that have been made include installation of glass facades in a dark portion of the terminal to allow for more natural light and views as travelers pass through security, a new business center, colored terrazzo flooring and infrastructure upgrades.

“We’re extremely excited about the new checkpoint opening,” said Bonnie Allin, Tucson Airport Authority president and CEO. “The improved queuing, expanded lanes, brighter views and added recomposure area are something that will elevate the passenger experience. The opening of this checkpoint brings us one step closer in completing our terminal optimization project, and this is just the beginning of a year that will truly bring ‘A Brighter TUS’ to customers.”
