RSW Begins Phase Two Expansion

The Lee County Port Authority has begun Phase 2 of Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)’s Terminal Expansion project. The $1 billion project, part of the airport’s Master Plan Update, will add a new ticketing lobby and baggage claim area; add a new TSA checkpoint in Concourse E; expand retail and concessions; update building plant and terminal access road facilities; and add 14 new gates in Concourse E with plans to eventually add a total of 19 gates. The project is funded by airport revenue bonds (GARB), federal grants from the Federal Aviation Administration, Passenger Facility Charges and state grants from the Florida Department of Transportation.

“Southwest Florida International Airport is the front door to our community and supports travel, business and tourism in our region,” said Lee County Port Authority executive director and CEO Steven C. Hennigan. “We appreciate the support from the Board of Port Commissioners and are ready to start this essential project to expand and enhance RSW’s capacity, which will be critical to our ability to meet the air service demands of Southwest Florida for many years to come.”
