Sacramento Airport Food Court Remodel Coming This Summer

A food court makeover in Terminal A at Sacramento International (SMF) is expected to result in a modern, open dining and lounging area where passengers can relax and enjoy some new specialty restaurants.

The project also involves the largest remodeling of the post-security interior of the space since the terminal opened in 1998.

SSP America will bring three local brands to the new dining and lounge space. Paesanos, which will offer hand-tossed pizza, salads and baked Italian sandwiches, and the Squeeze Inn, which sells burgers, will open this summer next to a cluster of new tables.

Iron Horse Tavern, a scaled version of the namesake restaurant at the intersection of 15th Street and R Street in Sacramento, will anchor the center aisle, or main street, of the new interior. The bar will extend into the middle of the food court.

“The SSP America team is excited to be building on our existing presence at Sacramento International Airport with three local superstars that represent the incredible culinary scene of Sacramento,” says Michael Svagdis, president and CEO of SSP America.

Freshii, another SSP restaurant that offers lighter fare, and a separate casual-dining bar and restaurant will also open in the fall. An expansion of the Starbucks, operated by HMSHost Corp., on the first floor of Terminal A is expected to be completed at the same time. About 35 percent of the traffic at SMF flies from Terminal A.
