Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) this Saturday will host Santa, Mrs. Claus and elves for an early Christmas celebration for 25 families from The Children’s Cabinet.
The December 7 party will begin with a parade of 20 single and twin engine aircraft and a Nevada Air National Guard C-130 that will make their way to Atlantic Aviation on the airport’s east side. Awaiting Santa, his elves and Mrs. Claus in the C-130 will be The Children’s Cabinet families, airport officials, dignitaries, media and volunteers, along with a group of cheering University of Nevada football players and cheerleaders, Flips gymnasts and North Valleys High School JROTC students.
Once the groups deplane, the doors of a large hangar at Atlantic Aviation will open to a winter wonderland, complete with gifts, Christmas trees, holiday trimmings, and craft stations all decorated by pilots, airlines and representatives of the local business community. The airport’s Paws 4 Passengers therapy dogs will also be on hand to add love and warmth to the event.
Operation Santa Claus, now in its seventh year, was started by the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority and Reno-Tahoe Aviation Group to make Christmas magical for families who wouldn’t otherwise have the resources to celebrate the holidays.
