San Antonio International Airport (SAT) has selected Hansel Phelps as the construction manager as risk for its new terminal development program (TDP). SAT officials said Hensel Phelps will collaborate closely with the master architect team of Corgan/Lake Flato to advance the design of the new terminal.
“We chose the construction manager at risk delivery method to minimize risk to the city and airport and maximize opportunities for small, local and disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs) to participate in the project,” Erik Walsh, city manager, said in a press release. “Hensel Phelps will be required to bid out approximately 85 percent of the work, which creates a lot of potential bites at the apple for other firms.”
The new terminal facility project will include a 17-gate concourse and apron with a new Federal Inspection Service area, expansion of elevated roadways, a multi-story ground transportation center, including additional parking, and other enhancements to the airport infrastructure.
“This year has been beyond incredible for SAT,” said Jesus Saenz, director of airports for the San Antonio Airport System. “From new nonstops taking us to 45 domestic and eight international destinations – and more travelers than ever choosing SAT – we are making history every single day. As we start 2024, we’ll enter the pre-construction phase, right on track as we expand our airport for everyone in San Antonio and our visitors from around the world.”
