Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA) is testing robot technology in hope of speeding up security wait times. The pilot program’s aim is to augment trained personnel by assisting passengers during the pre-screening process.
Utilizing audio instructions in English and on-screen animated instructions in six different languages, the robot will remind passengers to divest items such as light jackets, belts and to empty their pockets before going through the TSA checkpoint.
Officials monitoring the pilot program will track the number of times passengers trigger the body scanner alarm during and after the robot test. The technology augments the work of TSA officials, allowing them to focus on more critical security tasks.
