SFO Resumes Opening Of Harvey Milk Terminal 1

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has resumed the opening of the next phase of Harvey Milk Terminal 1. The opening was postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis.

On Tuesday, JetBlue Airways was scheduled to move to the new ticket counter and baggage claim locations in Harvey Milk Terminal 1, with Southwest Airlines following suit on Thursday.

In a $2.4 billion project, SFO is redeveloping Harvey Milk Terminal 1, one of its oldest terminals. The terminal was built in the early 1960s and over time has become less able to accommodate the millions of passengers that it handles each year.

The entire project, including 25 new gates, is expected to be completed in 2023.

Separately, SFO announced earlier this month that it has postponed for at least six months a project to renovate the remaining section of Terminal 3, where United Airlines operates. The $1B Terminal 3 West project was originally slated to begin physical construction in June.
