SFO Unveils 5 Finalists In App Development Competition

San Francisco International (SFO) is looking for a developer for its app, and the pool has been narrowed down to five.

The competition, called Wearable World Invents: The Connected Airport hackathon series, began last month. The five finalists will test their prototypes in the real environment of an airport terminal at SFO. When a winner is chosen, airport staff will work with developers to build and integrate the application for travelers to use.

“We are an airport that values innovation,” says John L. Martin, SFO’s director. “We welcome the creative efforts of Wearable World, and we look forward to the next great idea that transforms the travel experience for our guests.”

The series already has produced mobile apps that price out ground-transportation options, find entertainment while waiting for a flight and provide navigation within airport terminals.
