Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International (SJC) has partnered with the city of San Jose and the National Immigration Forum’s New American Workforce to make citizenship services available onsite for city and airport employees.
Mayor Sam Liccardo and several other local city and local officials were on hand Wednesday to announce the initiative and discuss the economic contributions to the region made by immigrants. Liccardo says the partnership will bolster local immigrant integration efforts.
San Jose was a founding municipal partner of the New American Workforce program and SJC is its first airport partner. The airport hosted a citizenship workshop immediately following the announcement on Wednesday.
Kim Becker, director of aviation, says she is proud to be a part of the initiative and is glad the airport is offering such sessions to its employees and their families.
“SJC’s significant growth in domestic and international flights is supported by a diverse group of employees who understand the languages and cultures of our global travelers,” she says. “Supporting our airport employees’ path to citizenship allows us to have a more stable and well-trained workforce.”
