Sarasota Bradenton International (SRQ) will be unveiling the top 100 pieces in its 2010 Student Art Show at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2.
The airport received 800 entries – a record number – for the annual showcase, which calls upon public, private and home-schooled students in Sarasota and Manatee counties to create unique works of art and submit them for the chance to be displayed on the wall of SRQ’s ticketing and check-in area.
“It is a true joy to walk through the terminal and see the passengers taking pleasure in the beautiful collection of student artwork on display in the terminal,” says airport President and CEO Rick Piccolo. “SRQ is delighted with the vast number of entries for our eighth show, and we look forward to the program’s continued growth and success in the community.”
Judges from art associations in the two counties select the top 100 pieces, based on originality, technique and execution, and visual impact. First-, second- and third-place and best of show awards are selected from four age categories, K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Winners are given a cash prize and a place in the airport’s exhibit. Teachers of the honored students are entered into a drawing for tickets on jetBlue Airways and AirTran Airways.
