SSP Canada, Paradies Announce Concepts For YWG

SSP Canada and The Paradies Shops have named the concepts they will operate in the new terminal at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International (YWG) when it opens.

“Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport has been transforming. While construction of the new air terminal building is well under way, transformation of amenities and services has been a focus,” says Barry Rempel, president and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc.  “We are pleased to be working with master concessionaires The Paradies Shops for retail and SSP Canada who will oversee food and beverage service. Both have a proven track record in an airport environment and we are pleased to have them on board.”

Among SSP’s food and beverage offerings is Upper Crust, which was developed in the United Kingdom by SSP in 1986 and offers authentic French baguettes baked throughout the day.

“SSP looks forward to furthering Upper Crust’s growth in the Canadian market,” says Pat Murray, senior vice president of business development for SSP. “Upper Crust will provide Winnipeg travelers a healthy alternative with an enticing display of freshly baked baguettes in an ‘eat and go’ format, ideal for the time pressed traveling consumer.”

Other concepts include Stella’s Café© & Bakery, which has offered café© breakfasts and cinnamon buns since it opened in 1999; Winnipeg’s Legendary Salisbury House, which offers back bacon & eggs breakfasts, grilled Winnis, sweet potato fries and chocolate-iced doughnuts; Rice Tales, a new contemporary Asian-fusion quick-serve concept providing a modern twist on traditional Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Filipino cuisine; and Gondola Pizza, known for its “Incomparable Original Thin Crust Pizza,” as well as pasta, ribs, chicken wings and salads.

Nationally known brands Starbucks, Tim Horton’s Inc. and T.G.I. Friday’s will also be in the mix.

On the retail side, Paradies will bring PGA TOUR Shops, CNBC News, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Rosetta Stone; local brands will include McNally Robinson Booksellers and TOAD HALL Toys.

“The Paradies Shops is excited to be part of the new retail program at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, offering customers the opportunity to enjoy a first class shopping experience – a level of service the company is known for throughout the industry,” said Bruce Feuer, vice president of business development for Paradies.  “In addition to bringing exclusive brands such as CNBC and PGA TOUR Shops to the airport, The Paradies Shops will offer two hometown favorites – TOAD HALL Toys and McNally Robinson Booksellers, both local icons in Winnipeg.”
