An SSP employee took home top honors at the Caffe Ritazza World Barista Championship in London, England.
Ziadabi Nakhoul, a 37-year-old who works at Dublin (DUB), produced four espressos and cappuccinos, as well as a signature drink called the Oriental Sensation; the concoction is inspired by the flavors of his native Middle East, and features espresso accented with rose syrup, cardamom and fennel garnished with chocolate.
“I really enjoy learning from competition,” says Nakhoul, who has worked for SSP for 11 years. “I love the challenge.”
Nakhoul says he will use the £1,000 (US$1,547) to buy himself a coffee machine for his home, and he will compete in the next Specialty Coffee Association of Europe Irish Barista Championship.
