Steenstra Taking Reigns At Fort McMurray In September

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority board of directors has chosen R.J. Steenstra as its next president and CEO.

Steenstra has been CEO of the Red Deer Airport Authority since 2011. During his time at Red Deer Regional (YQF), he has helped the airport become a more viable commercial transportation asset for Central Alberta in Canada. The airport has experienced four consecutive years of revenue growth, attracted a regional and a national air carrier and undergone significant airport development program.

He’ll start his new role at Fort McMurray International (YMM) on Sept. 12.

“R.J. joints Fort McMurray Airport at a key point in our development,” says Allan Kallal, chair of the board. “His appointment represents a new era that builds on previous successes. R.J. brings a wealth of airport leadership within the Alberta aviation sector and has a successful track record of strategy, development and delivery.”

Steenstra replaces Scott Clements, who arrived at the airport in 2009. During Clements’ tenure, the airport opened its $258 million terminal and converted its old terminal into a facility for cargo flights.
