STL Begins Relocation, Expansion Of Checkpoints

Lambert-St. Louis International (STL) has begun to relocate and expand the B and D checkpoint as part of its Airport Experience renovation program.

Passengers departing on American Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Cape Air are being directed around a walled-off construction zone on the lower level through a temporary tunnel to get to security lanes, which will be open during the project. Arriving passengers on all three airlines are being directed around the construction through a temporary exit near Starbucks and Carvel Ice Cream stores in Terminal 1. There is a new waiting area for those meeting passengers at that same location. The current detours will be in place through the end of October.

“We are asking for all travelers and visitors to have patience as we work through this difficult phase of the project which requires zoning off a lot of construction areas and detours to keep this checkpoint operational,” says Lambert Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “The payoff, however, will be an improved checkpoint process for our passengers. The visual makeover will be dramatic, as well.”

The new checkpoint, which will be deeper into the lower level of the terminal, will have more room for security lanes, technology upgrades and a two-story atrium entrance to the concourses. It will also make it easier for arriving passengers to exit.

Construction also continues in other areas of Terminal 1, including higher and brighter ceilings, new lighting and new interior finishes planned throughout the lower level. A new checkpoint meeting area and new restrooms in the baggage claim area are planned, too, and ticket counter renovations and floor-to-ceiling glass wall around the current checkpoint atrium are beginning.
