STL Grows Alternative Fuel Fleet In Advance Of Earth Day

St. Louis Lambert International (STL) has purchased seven new electric Nissan Leaf vehicles, expanding its alternative fuel fleet.

“It makes sustainability tangible,” says Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, STL airport director. “People see these huge vehicles like runway snow plows, and then what appear to be typical cars, and yet they all run on clean energy. It’s an eye-opening moment, and they’re only seeing a handful of our hundreds of vehicles.”

The City of St. Louis’ Sustainability Action Agenda set a goal for the airport’s fleet to consist of 85 percent alternative fuel vehicles by 2018. The purchase of the Nissan Leafs put STL at nearly 80 percent.

The all-electric vehicles will be used as utility vehicles for a variety of airport departments.
