Third Commercial Service Airport Planned For Dallas Area

The City Council of the city of McKinney, Texas this week unanimously approved a zoning change that will allow McKinney National Airport (TKI) to expand, with the goal of offering commercial service.

“I believe you will be seeing commercial flights in 2026 flying out of TKI,” said Mayor George Fuller, according to published reports. The airport is reportedly negotiating with two commercial airlines to begin service once a passenger terminal and other upgrades are completed. Work is set to begin this month on a runway extension.

Last month, TKI released an economic impact study conducted by InterVISTAS Consulting that shows an economic impact of more than $299 million annually, up 41% from 2018.
