TPA Issues Open Call for Artists

Tampa International Airport (TPA) announced that it is getting ready to issue a call for nine new public art works as part of Phase 2 of its expansion.

An informational session will be held on the third floor of the main terminal as soon as June 10, with visual artists of any medium invited to apply by July 17 to be considered for commissions from $100,000 to $520,000. Local, national and international artists all have a chance at being chosen to work with the airport’s Public Art Committee to bring unique pieces to TPA.

“We’re looking to grow our world-class public art collection with bold, innovative works that reflect Tampa Bay’s rich heritage and natural resources and celebrate our history as the birthplace of commercial aviation,” says Chris Minner, TPA’s executive vice president of marketing and communications. “Our recent public art installations bring joy to millions of passengers each year – and we expect these new commissions to continue that legacy.”

This announcement comes on the heels of the completion of seven new installations during the first phase of the master plan renovation. This is the second call issued by the airport for artists to contribute to the airport’s changing aesthetic.
