Lufthansa is coming to Tampa International (TPA), and the airport is celebrating with a month of German-inspired events.
Starting Aug. 21, a German village square will occupy the Main Terminal between Airsides E and F. Within the square there will be music, food, beer, wine tastings and other entertainment.
“With this new service, Germany has become closer than ever before to the residents of Tampa Bay,” says Maria Cook, TPA’s event manager. “We want to expose the general public to German culture and traditions and hopefully entice them to visit Germany.”
Just outside of the village square, the Airport Gallery will present the artwork of German painter and printmaker Otto Neumann. Music and entertainment throughout the month will include groups such as Mein Heimatland Musikanten, Gulf Coast Enzianer Schuhplatter Dance Group, Helmut Drews, Alex Meixner Band, DeLeon Band and Northern Sounds Band.
The airline will start non-stop service to Frankfurt five days a week starting Sept. 25. The service is expected to create 680 jobs and have an annual economic impact of $97 million for the region. The new flights are expected to give international passenger traffic a 70 percent increase compared with the 2010 fiscal year.
