United Airlines Investing To Upgrade 2 LAX Terminals

United Airlines officials Thursday outlined the company’s plans for upgrading two terminals at Los Angeles International (LAX) at a cost of $573 million.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilman Tom LaBonge, airport officials and airline executives attended an event that is aimed at refreshing all of the customer-facing space and offering more conveniences and amenities for passengers in Terminals 7 and 8, executives from United and LAX officials say.

The enhancements will be noticeable to passengers as soon as they walk through the door. United customers will step into an expansive ticketing lobby that incorporates the latest self-service tools, such as self-tagging baggage kiosks. Security screening checkpoints will be improved, as will gate areas, which will feature modern designs with relaxed, inviting spaces, they say. Charging stations will be provided in abundance.

There will be a United Club lounge in Terminal 7 where members can work or relax.

“From a state-of-the-art ticketing lobby to a sleek and spacious United Club lounge, we are enhancing the airport experience at LAX and giving our customers more of what they want when traveling – greater choice and control, consistency and comfort,” says Sandra Pineau-Boddison, senior vice president for customers at United, adding that the partnership between airport and airline will keep the United hub among the country’s premier global gateways.

Garcetti says the overhaul continues the city’s efforts to make LAX a world-class airport, a sentiment echoed by airport officials.

“The partnership we have with United will create the world-class experience we want for all LAX passengers,” says Sean Burton, president of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners. “As our passenger base continues to grow, we are working hard to improve the guest experience, making their journey through LAX more efficient and comfortable today and in the future.”
