For travelers at Orlando International (MCO), it really may be all about fun and games.
The King of Kong arcade has opened in the main terminal near the food court.
The arcade, opened by gaming icon Billy Mitchell, features fan favorites such as “Avatar,” “Hoop Challenge” and air hockey.
To mark the opening, Twin Galaxies, which is known for being the authority on video game high schools and world records, unveiled the first-ever series of gaming trading cards. The first two cards in the series show Mitchell and Walter Day, in honor of their contributions to video gaming. Mitchell holds numerous world records for “Donkey Kong” and “Pac-Man;” Day is considered the founding father of organized video game playing and competitions.
“The year 2011 marks the 40th year since the first teenager dropped the first quarter into the first arcade coin-operated video game and started what has become a global video game sport with leagues, world records and celebrity gamers,” Day says. “But it wasn’t until today that video gamers finally got their own set of trading cards.”
