Los Angeles World Airports, Southwest Airlines and Westfield will complete the $508 million modernization project of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Terminal 1 by the end of 2018. The project launched in September 2014, and in this final phase of redevelopment, Westfield will add 10 new dining and retail options, including three local Los Angeles concepts and three concepts never before seen in airports.
The new dining and retail options being added in this wave of additions includes Cassell’s Hamburgers; Chick‐fil‐A; Einstein’s Bagels; Kiehl’s skincare; MAC Cosmetics; The New Stand and The New Stand Kiosk; Pei Wei Asian Diner; Trejo’s Tacos and Urth Caffe.
Cassell’s Hamburgers is a local L.A. brand that cooks up classic American diner fare. The New Stand and The New Stand Kiosk are half-store and half-app. They use new technology to sell a mix of coffee, media, snacks and travel essentials. Pei Wei Asian Diner serves pan-Asian fare fast. Trejo’s Tacos is a local brand from actor Danny Trejo, and Urth Caffe offers a sustainable menu of healthy foods, organic coffee and fine tea.
The completed Terminal 1 will provide Southwest travelers with 20 new dining and retail concepts in all.
“Step by step we’ve watched the Terminal 1 experience transform into something uniquely Los Angeles that rivals the world’s best airport terminals,” says Dan Hough, vice president of Westfield. “Now, working in partnership with LAWA and Southwest, there’s even more to be excited about with this premier roster of dining, retail and amenities for the millions of travelers who use LAX as their gateway to the world.”
