Westfield Breaks Ground On Newark Amenities

Westfield broke ground on an overhaul of the food courts at Newark Liberty International’s (EWR) Terminals A and B.

The renovation will cost $3.5 million with the new “Liberty Terrace” scheduled to open later this year. It is expected to serve 15 million travelers annually, about half the airport’s travelers, company officials say. It will be built with natural design elements inspired by the idea of a walk through an urban park, with soft lighting, modern banquettes, lounge-style seating and plenty of charging outlets.

“Westfield saw an opportunity to break the mold of the old food court and transform the very heart of Terminals A and B into an inviting, relaxing destination for travelers,” says Dominic Lowe, executive vice president of Westfield. “As we embark on Liberty Terrace, we remain committed to creating innovative, world-class environments worthy of travelers in each of our properties around the country.”

Another new feature in the Liberty Terrace will be pop-up shops, which Westfield officials say will offer travelers the opportunity to shop local and seasonal retailers – and provide opportunities for small businesses to experience airport retail with minimum investment.
