Fourteen local Los Angeles brands will be among the 21 new dining and retail destinations in Terminal 6 at Los Angeles International (LAX), and 13 of the 21 will be concepts making their first foray into an airport.
Los Angeles World Airports and Westfield have provided a sneak peak at the terminal in a video released to the media this morning. The terminal’s design is inspired by the city’s iconic Sunset Boulevard.
“By infusing the terminal with cutting-edge multisensory design, innovative new technologies and a signature blend of local flavors and the best international brands, we’ve crafted a singular vision for Terminal 6 which reflects the style, spirit and scenery of L.A.’s legendary Sunset Boulevard,” says Dominic Lowe, executive vice president at Westfield, which is the developer for LAX’s Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 6 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal. “As the complete transformation takes shape, we are committed to a continued partnership with Los Angeles World Airports to forge a bold new path at LAX.”
Constructed in 1961, LAX’s Terminal 6 was expanded in 1979. It has 14 gates and is served by five carriers serving both domestic and international travelers. In 2014, the terminal served about 8 million travelers. The new design opens up the space between the original terminal and its connector, which was built more than a decade after the original building. It creates more space and new sightlines to shopping, dining and gates. Gate areas will feature a cafe, lounge and communal seating, with charging outlets and room to work or relax before boarding.
The 21 concessions locations more than double what was available in the previous program. It encompasses 17,400 square feet of space. Among the options will be The Marketplace by Wolfgang Puck, a modern dining experience combining the efforts of Wolfgang Puck Worldwide and CMS Hospitality. Its three culinary stations include The Kitchen, which will serve food in a dining room or on the go; WPizza, which will sell customizable pizzas and an assortment of salads and sandwiches; and The Wine Bar, a focal point where guests can get small plates or gourmet meals and enjoy an extensive wine list, craft cocktails and beers.
Westfield’s operating partners in Terminal 6 also include Delaware North, HMSHost Corp., Hudson Group, J&H Enterprises, SSP America, Tumi Inc., World Duty Free Group and XpresSpa.
Other food concepts in Terminal 6 will include Osteria by Fabio Viviani, a debut concept created by the Top Chef; The Habit Burger Grill; Wahoo’s Fish Taco; the beach-inspired Blu2o; Earth Bar, craft brewery Point the Way Cafe; and Starbucks and Starbucks Evenings.
Travel essentials will be sold at Los Angeles News, Access Hollywood, Sunset News and Market 8600. Other retail brands include apparel store M. Fredric, Tumi, MAC cosmetics, See’s Candies, and electronics and technology store Belkin. XpresSpa will provide massage, nail and facial services, as well as a collection of retail products.
