Wheat Chosen As Interim Leader Of TPA After Miller’s Resignation

John Wheat has been named the interim executive director of Tampa International (TPA).

The move comes after the airport’s board of directors accepted the resignation of Louis E. Miller, who had the role for 14 years. The appointment became effective March 5.

Wheat has been the deputy executive director at TPA for nearly 11 years; his new role will include planning and development, finance, information technology, administration, properties, maintenance, operations and public safety.

He joined the Tampa management team in August 1999 after 26 years in Salt Lake City, where he was director of finance and administration for the Salt Lake City Airport Authority, and then chief operating officer.

In addition, he has held various roles with Airports Council International, including chairman of the ACI-NA Economic Committee and serving on the ACI-International Economic Steering Committee.
