The U.S. Senate confirmed Michael Whitaker to lead the Federal Aviation Administration. Confirmed in a vote of 98 to 0, Whitaker will fill the post that has been vacant for more than 18 months.
Whitaker is a former Obama administration official. He will fill the seat vacated by Stephen Dixen last year. In recent months, Deputy Transportation Secretary Polly Trottenberg has filled the role on an interim basis.
Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) congratulated Michael Whitaker on his confirmation. “As we face these headwinds, the need for permanent leadership at FAA is essential, and ACI-NA is confident that Michael Whitaker is up for the challenge,” said Kevin Burke, ACI-NA president and CEO “We congratulate him on his confirmation to be the next FAA Administrator. I look forward to our continued partnership with FAA as we work together to ensure a safe, secure, and efficient air travel experience.”
