YHZ Forges Partnership With Local Food Center

The Halifax International Airport Authority has created a new partnership with the Dartmouth North Community Food Centre.

“The Dartmouth North Community Food Centre is an integral part of our community, and we’re thrilled to support the important work they do,” says Joyce Carter, HIAA president and CEO. “As Atlantic Canada’s first community food centre, they are committed to developing programs that engage and bond community members. We are confident our support will help to create new opportunities for them to make an even bigger impact.”

Dartmouth North Community Food Centre offers a place where people are able to come together to grow, cook, share and advocate for good food. The organization also hosts events and workshops to help community members develop new cooking and gardening skills.

Through the partnership, HIAA will support the organization with $75,000 over three years, as well as providing awareness and volunteer support. This will be the third signature partner for the airport authority.

“The Dartmouth North Community Food Centre is honored to be chosen as HIAA’s signature partner for the next three years,” says Roxanne Manning, executive director of the Dartmouth Family Centre/Dartmouth North Community Food Centre. “This ongoing support will be felt across our programming, from our Saturday Market, where we distribute more than 800 pounds of low-cost produce every week, to our Community Farm, regular Community Meals and after-school programming for young cooks. We look forward to working alongside the HIAA team over the coming years as they contribute their time, expertise and financial support.”
