YVR Opens Expanded International Terminal

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) this week announced the start of full operations of its newly expanded Pier D international terminal, enabling arriving and departing passengers to access eight new gates and a host of new amenities.

At nearly 300,000 square feet, the Pier D project is the airport’s largest terminal expansion since 1996 and features a glassed-in island forest with access to the outdoors, an immersive digital experience, a multi-faith prayer room/yoga/quiet room and new shopping and dining options,

“Opening the Pier D expansion is a milestone that we’re particularly proud of,” said Tamara Vrooman, president and CEO at Vancouver Airport Authority, operator of YVR. “This beautiful space reflects our unique sense of place, our commitment to reconciliation, and who we are as an airport. The new Pier D will also result in many significant benefits for our community and the economy that supports it—helping us connect more travelers and airlines to more destinations while supporting local jobs, businesses, and economic activity for our region. Congratulations and thank you to our employees, partners, and community members who helped bring this innovative project to life and into full operations.”

The Pier D project was initially part of the airport’s multi-year capital program and construction began in December 2017. After a short pause due to impacts of the global pandemic, the project was completed in January 2021.

The Pier D terminal will eventually include new restaurants, retail and lounge space, which are expected to open to the public in Spring 2023, YVR added in a follow-up correspondence. There are currently a number of concessions options in the international terminal, such as Lift bar & Grill, a favorite West Coast eatery; Plaza Premium Lounge; Duty Free stores; retail brands like BVLGARI; and more, available just two minutes from the new Pier D terminal.

Additionally, passengers can now order online at yvr.ca/ordernow and pick up when they arrive at the store’s designated pick-up station.
