City Ends Exploration into Leasing of STL

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson said late last month that the city has ended the exploration process into the possible leasing of St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) and will not be moving forward on soliciting Request for Proposals.

The announcement essentially ends any additional plans to move forward on the leasing of the airport, which the city has been looking into for several years.

STL director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge issued a statement following the mayor’s announcement, noting that airport officials supported the city’s efforts throughout the process, but adding that the STL mission remains the same.

“Our team’s focus has been on working with all of our airlines, tenants, concessionaires and other partners to send off or welcome close to 16 million passengers this year,” says Hamm-Niebruegge. “Through the process, we’ve been open to hearing feedback from of our citizens and business leaders about the airport’s operations. Furthermore, we’re excited to hear the growing support for this airport to become an even bigger asset for all of our users and the St. Louis region.”
